Detectives are working to find and arrest a man in connection with an attempted kidnapping of a child in Fairmount Heights early this morning. This occurred at 3:45 am at a home in the 5900 block of L Street. The child was not hurt.
The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect tried to pull the child out of an unlocked bedroom window. The suspect was outside of the home at the time, the victim was inside sleeping in a bed. The victim yelled and was able to scare off the suspect who then ran away. At this time, this is the only report of this type of incident in the area.
The suspect is described as an African American man, 6’0” and about 300 pounds. He was wearing a white t-shirt.
Detectives will canvass the neighborhood this evening to gather additional information in this case. The canvass is set to begin at 5:00 pm in the 5900 block of L Street.
